Cover Options
Annual cover
People over 50 are travelling more than ever. Typically, if you have three or more trips planned for the year, annual cover can be a cost-effective way of protecting yourself. You’ll save time on taking out multiple single-trip policies, while still receiving all the benefits of comprehensive holiday insurance.
An annual policy can protect you on a range of trips, including beach holidays and snowy getaways. And with our range of cover levels, you can choose the right level of protection for the year ahead.
Single Trip
Designed to cover you over the course of a single holiday, this type of policy is best suited to anyone who only has one or two trips planned for the year. With Age Co Travel Insurance, even on single trips, you can find coverage for medical emergencies and lost or damaged personal possessions.
You can buy single-trip travel insurance up to 12 months before your holiday. If you include cancellation cover, this means you can protect your trip from the minute your policy starts.
Getting a Quote
In order to get a travel insurance quote, you’ll need to provide:
- Details about where you plan on travelling
- Dates for your trip, unless you’re taking out annual travel insurance
- Information on any pre-existing medical conditions
Though not a requirement, you may find it helpful to have receipts for flights or hotels to hand. This can help you determine how much cover feels right for your trip.

What is travel insurance for over 70s?
Over 70s travel insurance is cover that’s inclusive to the needs of senior travellers, including those with pre-existing medical conditions, such as high blood pressure, kidney stones, or cancer. We offer worldwide holiday insurance with no upper age limit that helps you explore confidently during retirement.
Travel insurance for over 70 with medical conditions
Many people worry that pre-existing medical conditions will stop them from finding the right travel insurance. And while standard policies might not be suitable, Age Co works in partnership with AllClear – who offer specialist medical travel insurance. Together, 99% of travellers are offered cover, including those with:
- High cholesterol
- Blood clots
- Breast cancer
- Hernias
- Strokes
How much does travel insurance for over 70s cost?
The only way to get an accurate price is to get an over 70s travel insurance quote. All policies are priced according to the individual and their trip details. While age and medical history can affect pricing, so too can your chosen destination. For example, insurance covering the USA tends to be more expensive due to the cost of healthcare.
Other factors that can impact the price of your policy include:
- Length of stay: shorter holidays tend to cost less than longer trips away.
- Activities: skiing and water sports are viewed as high-risk activities, so tend to require either additional protection or high costs
- Cruises: these types of holidays have their own unique risks, such as port delays, so you might need to purchase additional cover
- Level of protection: some traveller choose to pay more to have extra benefits or lower excess costs

Frequently asked questions
What's not covered by over 70s travel insurance?
While travel insurance can provide a wide range of protection for anyone over 70 travelling, you must do your best to stay safe while on holiday. If your provider finds out you’ve put yourself at risk or failed to disclose key information, you may struggle to make a claim. The following are common scenarios that will risk invalidating your insurance:
- Failing to disclose any medical conditions while getting a quote or after taking out a policy
- Travelling against the advice of your doctor
- Engaging with high-risk activities that aren’t covered by your policy
What countries does over 70s travel cover?
Age Co Travel Insurance is able to offer worldwide protection. However, to get the right price, it’s important you disclose your specific destination while getting a quote. Limiting your coverage to the UK or Europe tends to be more cost-effective than general worldwide protection. If you are travelling further afield, you can customise your policy to exclude the USA, Canada, and the Caribbean - destinations that incur higher costs.
Why does travel insurance cost more when you turn 70?
The cost of travel insurance tends to increase as we get older. This is tied to the higher chance of medical incidents taking place. To offset these costs, it’s recommended you consider providers carefully to ensure you find the right protection at a fair price.
Can holiday insurance for over 70s include gadgets?
Yes. With Age Co Travel Insurance, no matter what level you select,
all policies can include gadget cover as an optional extra. This helps protect key items, such as laptops, tablets and mobile phones from damage, loss, and theft for up to £2,500. When getting a quote online, you’ll find all our optional extras once you’ve selected from our Gold, Gold Plus, and Platinum quotes.
Does travel insurance have upper age limits?
Age Co Travel Insurance has no upper age limit. Where other providers might not offer cover, we’re determined to help travellers get more from later life – regardless of age or pre-existing medical conditions.
Can someone else join my travel Insurance policy if they're under 70?
Yes, you can add another traveller onto your policy, even if they are under 70.
Age Co Travel Insurance is provided through AllClear. If you’d like to learn more about adding someone to your policy, you can speak to a member of their team on 0800 030 4885
What factors will affect the cost of over 70s travel Insurance?
If you’re looking for cheap travel insurance for over 70s, there are ways you can reduce the cost of a quote. Avoiding destinations with expensive health care systems (such as the USA), as well as risky activities, such as winter sports, will help keep the cost of travel insurance quotes down.
When should you buy over 70s travel insurance?
You can choose to take out travel insurance at any point before your trip. For peace of mind, you might arrange cover to start as soon as you book, so you can stay protected against cancellations, if this is included in your policy.
With Age Co Travel Insurance, you can take out single trip travel insurance 12 months before the start of your holiday. Alternatively, if you have two or more trips planned, you can purchase annual travel insurance up to 31 days before your first getaway and stay protected for the next 12 month period.
The most important thing to remember is that no matter what decision you make, travel insurance must be purchased before you travel.
