Cover options

People over 50 are travelling more than ever. Typically, if you have three or more trips planned for the year, annual cover can be a cost-effective way of protecting yourself. You’ll save time on taking out multiple single-trip policies, while still receiving all the benefits of comprehensive insurance.

An annual policy can protect you on a range of trips, including beach holidays and snowy getaways. And with our range of cover levels, you can choose the right level of protection for the year ahead.

Single Trip

Designed to cover you over the course of a single holiday, this type of policy is best suited to anyone who only has one or two trips planned for the year. With Age Co Travel Insurance, even on single trips, you can find coverage for medical emergencies and lost or damaged personal possessions.

You can buy single-trip travel insurance up to 12 months before your holiday. If you include cancellation cover, this means you can protect your trip from the minute your policy starts.

What's covered

Whether you’re tanning on the beach, enjoying a new city, or hitting the ski slopes, we provide three levels of quality cover to protect you annually and on single trips. This means you can find over 50s travel insurance that is right for you.

Our team have carefully selected AllClear as our Travel Insurance provider, furthering our mission to deliver quality products and services for the over 50s.

Age Co previously offered Travel Insurance up until August 2019. We’ve taken the last few years to research the needs of our customers and find a new partner who we feel has the right range of products and a strong reputation for customer service, as well as being inclusive to older holiday-goers. AllClear is on a mission to help anyone with medical conditions get the protection they want and need. With a passion for delivering fair pricing to anyone of any age, Age Co selected AllClear to be our Travel Insurance provider in 2023.

Travel Insurance explained
Do I need travel insurance?

No matter where your next holiday is taking you, having travel insurance can help provide both peace of mind and vital protection should things go wrong. This could mean reimbursing you should your trip get cancelled, or stepping in to cover the cost of any hospital stays. No matter your age or your medical history, we always advise getting some level of cover in place far in advance of any planned trip, if you are able.

Many products, including Age Co Travel Insurance, offer different levels of coverage and can be tailored to suit your needs.

How much is travel insurance?

The cost of travel insurance is calculated based on your age, pre-existing medical conditions, trip duration and where you plan on visiting. Prices will also vary depending on how much protection you’re after and how much excess you’re willing to pay.

The easiest way to know how much travel insurance will cost is to approach some providers and get some quotes.

Do you need travel insurance if you have a GHIC card?

The Global Health Insurance Card allows UK residents to receive the same level of healthcare in Europe that the locals have access to. It is currently valid in 27 EU countries. This means that there are a lot of countries where this card won’t be valid. It also will not cover all possible medical costs you may incur, nor protect any medical equipment you may need to bring. Therefore, it is still recommended to take out travel insurance.

When should you take out travel insurance?

This will depend. If you’re looking to keep the cost of your quote down, then purchasing insurance just before a trip will be the most cost-effective option. However, this will mean you are unprotected against cancellations. Only by taking insurance out in advance will you be covered against your holiday falling through - though you will likely pay a higher premium for this.

At Age Co, you can take out single trip travel insurance up to 12 months in advance of your trip. This not only gives you one less thing to think about when your holiday comes around, but, if your policy includes cancellation coverage, you’ll be protected if your plans change.

Can I be insured after a heart attack/stroke/other medical event?

Many people worry that they won’t be able to take out travel insurance after a change to their health, especially after a sudden event like a heart attack. If you have experienced a change in your health within the last few years, you might find yourself needing specialist medical travel insurance. At Age Co, we have carefully selected AllClear as the provider of our Travel Insurance. They were the first in the UK to create travel insurance that provided for people with pre-existing conditions. Together, we’re able to help 99% of customers find protection for their next holiday.

What is travel insurance excess?

Excess refers to the amount you agree to pay towards any claims that may occur. For instance, if your excess towards cancellations is £250, then you’ll pay the first £250 of any claim made on a cancelled trip. Your insurer will then pay the rest, providing it is within the agreed limit. Typically, the more excess you’re willing and able to take on, the cheaper the policy - though this can vary, depending on other factors involved.

Which travel insurance covers the over 70s?

As we get older, it can be hard to find the right travel insurance, especially if a provider has an age limit in place. Luckily, Age Co Travel Insurance has no upper age limit. For older travellers and those with pre-existing conditions, we’ll do our best to help you feel protected during your next getaway.

How do you get a quote for travel insurance?

Getting a quote for travel insurance is both easy and flexible. You can get a quote for Age Co Travel Insurance, provided by AllClear, either online or by calling the AllClear team on 0800 030 4885.

Whether you’re opting for single trip or annual cover, you will need to detail any pre-existing medical conditions you have. We also recommend having details about your planned trips to hand.
